Papalapit na sa $100 million mark sa US box-office ang latest Disney live-action na “Aladdin” pagkatapos na magbukas ito during Memorial Day weekend.
Aladdin has been pegged to gross between $75 million and $85 million at about 4,400 sites over the four-day weekend.
Ang nagdirek nito ay ang British film director at ex-husband ni Madonna na si Guy Ritchie. Pinagbibidahan ito nila Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Will Smith as the Genie, Naomi Scott as Jasmine and Marwan Kenzari as Jafar. The original 1992 animated movie, with Robin Williams as the Genie, grossed a massive $502 million globally and won two Oscars.
Nakakuha ng glowing review ang Aladdin sa Variety, calling it “a mostly rewarding live-action remake.”
Puwede raw matumbasan ng “Aladdin” ang naging opening record ng 2007 Disney film na “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” na kumita ng $139 million sa pagbukas nito on Memorial Day weekend.
Ang biggest Memorial Day weekend opening of any film ay ang “Fast and Furious 6” in 2013. Nag-gross ito ng $314 million in four days. (Ruel Mendoza)
